Affordable NAS devices with iSCSI support
by Alain Fontaine on Jul.05, 2009, under Technology
The NAS device market has showed some good news for the SOHO and small business users over the last few months. While affordable and feature-rich NAS devices have been around for a pretty long time, it’s not until recently that the major players have added (or are planning to add in the next weeks) iSCSI support to their devices. I consider iSCSI support extremely useful as it allows you to build entreprise-like storage for a fraction of the cost that you’d need to spend with going the fibrechannel route. Having done some research, here’s what I’ve found on the Internet.
EPSON : really easy printer install
by Alain Fontaine on Jan.18, 2009, under Technology
I recenty purchased an EPSON SX600FW all-in-one printer for home use. It does pretty good quality printing, as well as scanning, and fax, and it comes with USB, ethernet, bluetooth and WIFI connectivity – what do you need more?
I’m writing this article to tell you how easy the network installation was. I prepared myself for installation-hell like I was used to with HP printers. But this one was very easy.
- Setup the printer physically.
- Use the integrated LCD screen to setup WIFI settings.
- Download driver software from Epson’s website.
- Add a TCP/IP printer port to Vista.
- Install the downloaded drivers (and scan software) and tell it to use the added TCP/IP port.
- Done! Everything works – network (Wifi) printing, scanning, faxing… very cool!
Here’s the link to the printer’s page on the Epson website.
